Sárospatak at the heart of Tokaj

Tokaj Vine and Wine Congress takes place in Sárospatak, a historic town in north-eastern Hungary, surrounded by the UNESCO-listed cultural landscape of the Tokaj wine region.

About Sárospatak

Sárospatak has been a centre of learning, culture and viticulture for centuries. The town is known for the Rákóczi Castle and the Sárospatak Reformed College, where the Czech educator John Amos Comenius taught in the 17th century - leaving an educational legacy that still shapes the town’s identity. Hosting the congress here places the scientific conversations inside a living wine heritage landscape.

The Tokaj wine region

Tokaj is one of the world’s oldest classified wine regions, with a continuous viticultural history reaching back over a thousand years and a formal classification dating to 1737. Its terraced vineyards, dry-stone walls and traditional cellars form a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape built around the production of botrytised aszú wines and the local indigenous grape varieties.

The conference venue

The congress takes place at the Lechner Building of the University of Tokaj in Sárospatak - Eötvös út 7. The building hosts the plenary hall, parallel-session rooms, registration desk, exhibition area and the partner programme spaces. Field-programme stops in the wider Tokaj region will be announced together with the scientific schedule.
